War Declaration of Independence
On March 25, 1969, President Ayub was ousted by the army chief, General Yahya Khan. Once again, Pakistan was under siege. But soon General Yahya had the steps needed to hold general elections and open political activity to increase.On October 28, 1970, Sheikh Mujib made a broadcast on radio and television as part of their electoral campaign.Then in elections on December 12, 1970, the Awami League emerged as the largest party in parliament in Pakistan, winning 167 of 313 seats. However, the Awami League was not allowed to government, because of the machinations of General Yahya in collusion with the West Pakistani leader Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, whose Pakistan People's Party won 88 seats.The opening session of the planned start of Dhaka Parliament was abruptly interrupted with the pretext of resolving the differences between the political leaders of the two wings. The Bengals saw this as a conspiracy by the military junta of Pakistan to the democratic power they had won through elections to refuse. In his landmark speech on March 7 public meeting in Uddyan Suhrawardi, Sheikh Mujib asked his people to the non-cooperation movement had begun to follow the request and for a decisive battle for Independence war to prepare. But to a direct confrontation with the bloodthirsty Army Yahya Khan to prevent held the door open for political negotiations.Despite strong opposition from his followers, especially the student members of the community, Sheikh Mujib sat with General Yahya and his advisors to negotiate a constitutional settlement, and when things looked good, the talks broke down March 25. The military oppression and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib was ordered arrested and taken to West Pakistan. But just before he was arrested, an appeal to the liberation war began. Known as the War Declaration of Independence, this historic document written in a hurry as follows:Pak Army suddenly attacked EPR Base Pilkhana, Rajarbagh Police Line and killing civilians. Street fights go on all the streets of Dhaka, Chittagong. I urge the nations of the world in search of help. Our freedom fighters bravely fighting the enemy to liberate the homeland. And I call you all in the name of Almighty God will fight until the last drop of blood to free the land. Ask police, EPR, Bengal regiment and Ansar to stand by you and fight. No compromise, victory is ours. Expel the enemies of the holy land of the country. Bring this message to all Awami League leaders, workers and other patriots and lovers of freedom. May God bless you.
